Insurance market • Enough capacity available on the market. • More then 300.000 EUR – European market • More then 30.000 EUR damage is considered as an important accident • The system is working since 1995 • The terrorist attacks are not covered however this is the question not only of money Martin Vošta - Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic

Accidents reporting and statistics • Rail safety inspection is an investigation body in accordance with a directive 2004/49/EC • All accidents and incidents are reported in a real time • The Annual Report is published by this body since 2003. Conclusion • There are important differences between companies insurances and between countries. • The contract it self is usually not covering the terrorist attacks • By increasing the insurance level, the competitiveness of the railway is decreasing significantly • The insurances are usually not valid out of the territory of the state however the equivalent damages costs should be the same all over the Europe • The price we pay for increasing the safety on the rail by one unit is inappropriately higher then the price for the same unit on the road Martin Vošta - Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic
