  8. WHY CONSORTIA LOVE COMMERCIAL ACQUISITIONS • Buying is easy • Sales reps come right to the door • We can attach administrative overhead • We can calculate “savings” CIC

  9. THERE ARE MANY INCONVENIENT TRUTHS • Perhaps we’d sooner sustain a losing strategy than validate or support our colleagues • People don’t always recognize or pursue their own best interests • Our definitions of consortia might be too limited CIC

NEW WORK FOR CONSORTIA • Compile communities of content for communities of users (selection) • Selectively upgrade important texts, heavily used texts, and texts of enduring research and instructional value • Aggregate and integrate digital content • Clear rights • Develop cooperative approaches for digital and print archiving • Invest strategically CIC

  11. LIBRARIANSHIP IS A TEAM SPORT • Get a game plan • Compete cooperatively • Trust your teammates • Play to win • Have fun
