(Members of the Irish Senate are also elected by this method.) Be sure to describe some of the more bizarre occurrences at the Oscar ceremonies. Groups 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 – Research and present a group report on how voting is conducted for the following awards: The Heisman Trophy (group 2), the Nobel Prize (group 3), the Grammy (group 4), the Tony or the Emmy (group 5), and the Pulitzer Prize (group 6). 2. 1107 Group Project #12 Due Wed 4/6, 2-3 min PPT, HC to me One presentation per group. Write a ballot measure, perhaps controversial, but dealing with an issue of relevance to our campus and/or community. Rather than holding an election, exchange ballots among the groups in this class, administer the ballot, and have them rank their choices. Use each of the four voting methods to determine the winning option for your ballot measure.

  3. 1107 Group Project #13 Due Wed 4/6, 2-3 min PPT w/ biblio, HC to me One presentation per group. The method currently used to apportion the U.S. House of Representatives is known as the Huntington-Hill Method and more commonly as the method of equal proportions. Research and present a group report on this method. Include the history of how the method came into use and describe how the method works.

  4. 1107 Group Project #14 Due Mon 4/18, One presentation per group 2-3 min explanation of one PPT slide (or other visual) HC to me Select a favorite television series, movie, or novel with an extensive and interesting cast of characters. Determine a relationship that exists among some, but not all, of the characters. Represent the characters as vertices and use edges to show these relationships.

  5. 1107 Group Project #15 Due Mon 4/18, 5 min PPT (or other visual), HC to me One presentation per group. Create and solve a traveling salesperson problem. Group members should agree on four cities to be visited. Assume you are located at a particular city, A. Let B, C, D, and E represent each of the four cities you have agreed upon. Consult the Internet and use one-way airfares between cities to create a weighted graph. Use the Brute Force Method to find the optimal solution to visiting each of your chosen cities and return home. Use the Nearest Neighbor Method to approximate the optimal solution. How much money does the group save using the optimal solution instead of the approximation?
