  5. What is a QR code? • A QR Code is a two-dimensional barcode that is readable by smartphones or other handheld devices. • QR Codes may be used to display: • text • URL • contact information • email

To read QR Codes, you need an appropriate software installed on your phone or tablet. • Android-based devices, you can use Barcode Scanner by ZXing. • iOS-Devices like iPhones there are also QR Code readers available on the AppStore, for Example i-nigma. • Firefox OS try QR Code Scanner • Symbian devices, you can use Mobiletag barcodes reader

  7. What can a QR Code do in the classroom?

  8. Where can QR Codes be placed? • Newsletter • Posters • Photos • Class libraries • Flash cards • Notebooks • Learning centers • Class materials • Doorways • Permission slips • Tickets • School office • Teacher’s lounge • Restrooms (you know they are using their phones in there anyway) • ?????

How to scan: Once you have the reader: • Open the app, which will activate your device’s camera function. • Aim at the QR code and hold still for a few seconds while the camera focuses. • An option to go to the information should pop up once the reader has captured it. • Welcome to another resource treasure!

  11. 1st Annual ELC QR Scavenger Hunt ! • If you have a QR ready device, invite someone who doesn’t have one to hunt with you. • If you don’t have a QR ready device, invite someone who does have one to hunt with you. • Each group member has a specific task. Switch tasks after each Code is found. • Scanner: holds the device & scans the codes • Seeker: looks for the Codes • Decoder: reads the clues & codes • Note-taker: makes notes for the group

  13. Generate 4 QR Codes Create one of each QR Codes: • URL • Text • Contact • Email

  14. Gallery Walk • On your monitor, display one of the QR codes that you have generated. • At the signal, class members will walk the room and scan the newly created QR codes. • Take notes and prepare two or three questions about the QR Codes displayed. • Be prepared to talk about your code.
