  4. “Mr.Prices” WHO “Mr. Prices” (Garante per la sorveglianzadeiprezzi) established by Law 244/2007 Appointed for 3 years within the Ministry of Economic Development Since November 2012 Mr. Prices is the DG for market, competition & consumers  sinergieswithConsumersAssociations WHAT Supervises prices dynamics and highlights real mechanisms of prices formation along the supply chain, giving evidence to potential speculative behaviour; Transversal (=cross-Ministries/Institutions etc.) coordination role in order to activate and realize in-depth analyses and inquiries. No direct intervention (competence or powers) but he can: Ask businesses to report & moral suasion Transmit report results to the Antitrust Authority Advice the Ministry of Economic Development CMEG, 24/1/2013

Mr.Prices(cont.d) HOW Sectors and products or services to tackle can be selected following consumers associations suggestions (letters, ad hoc meetings etc.) or citizens complaints (via e-mail and toll-free number). In order to carry on analyses and inquiries he relies on the collaboration of several institutions and entities, such as: National Statistical Office (ISTAT) Competent Ministries (e.g. Health, Transports, Agriculture etc.) Independent Authorities (Antitrust, Energy) Chambers of Commerce Guardia diFinanza (Finance Police with special investigation powers) Recent inquiries : LPG, methane, SMS and Bank accounts costs leading to moral suasion intervention.
