    4. Step 1: Rest up The job search process can be very overwhelming, intense and exciting. It is very important to get plenty of sleep so you have energy, concentration, and stamina throughout the process. You don’t want to end up going into and interview looking haggard and warn out.

    5. Step 2: Ask around When making any important life decision, it can be helpful to check in with an expert. For example, your Career Services Advisor is always here to help! However, since Dr. Phil seems to think he is the expert on everything, let’s see what he has to say about getting off the couch, and getting a JOB….     9. … by receiving proof, evidence, or testimonials that demonstrate the candidate’s work... My advice: As the job seeker you could show the employer the work you have done in the past to provide proof of what you can do for them. You could email them a link to an online portfolio, set up a time to demo a program you’ve designed, or send writing samples or letters of recommendation with your resume. These are just a few ideas.

    10. …by taking recommendations from the people they trust (colleagues, friends, family, etc.)! My advice: As the job seeker you should maintain positive relationships with former supervisors and colleagues. Don’t burn bridges because you never know when you’ll need someone to put in a good word for you. Also, a great way to meet NEW people in your career field is to join a professional association!

    11. Employers are now searching for qualified candidates using LinkedIn! LinkedIn is a professional online social networking site that over 80 million professionals are using to exchange information, ideas and job opportunities. My advice: As a job seeker you should build a strong and up-to-date LinkedIn profile! URL: http://www.linkedin.com/

    13. Step 4: Research Occupational research will help you see the big picture (industry trends, career fields, and labor market information). Employer research will to bring clarity and understanding to the job search process. Employers put up tons of information in their websites these days… including the latest and greatest job openings ?!

    15. Step 5: Learn about jobs It is always a good idea to learn about available job opportunities (even if you aren’t currently looking for employment). Doing this will keep you informed and engaged in the process. You will know exactly what skills employers are looking for so you can work on developing them now! There are thousands of websites that list available jobs! You can locate our recommended resources on the Career Services Website or call (802) 860-2720 to schedule an appointment to meet with your Career Advisor.
