  1. Welcome to PVPV Rawlings We are excited about a great 2019-2020 school year focused on “Working Hard, Being Kind, and Being Awesome!”

Language Arts • 60%-Reading Comprehension • 40%-Vocabulary, Grammar, Writing *Novel Studies, Themed Mini Units, Skill-specific activities, Achieve 3000, iReady individualized lessons *Weekly Vocabulary (10-15 words/week)-starting week of September 9th *IXL Language Arts – “Monopoly” board each quarter *5 Paragraph Essays (opinion, informative) *Sunshine State Books (SSYRA) & Great Books

Math • 50% - Assessments (tests) • 40% - Quizzes/Classwork • 10% - Fluency (math facts) * Breakfast for Your Brain (daily problems- Quiz on Friday) * Math Text (Envision/Realize) online access * IXL skills (optional but strongly encouraged) * iReady individualized lessons * Math Practice Tests * Memorize math facts****** * FSA style test questions all year

Social Studies 40% - Assessments 60% - Classwork * Florida Studies- geography, hurricanes, Native Americans, explorers, St. Augustine, Civil War, pioneer life, Henry Flagler, economy, cities/counties. * Reading Comprehension focus! * Projects (mostly in class) * Many of the essays students will write will be related to social studies topics.

  6. Science • 40% Quizzes/Classwork • 60% Assessments (tests) * HMH Florida Science (online access) * Topics: Earth/Moon, Rocks/Minerals/Resources, Matter, Energy, Life Cycles, etc…. * Reading Comprehension focus!!

Student Responsibilities • Record assignments in planner • Complete work on time • Be prepared with materials • Keep papers organized in notebooks, folders • Ask for make-up work when absent • Turn in completed make-up work • Ask for help when needed • Yellow Homework folder to/from school daily

  8. FSA • Writing (April) • Language Arts (May) • Mathematics (May) * All 3 tests will be paper-pencil (not computer based) * As soon as we know exact dates, we will let you know.

  9. How Can You Help Your Child? • Check the planner daily. • Encourage your child to self-advocate. • Read with and to your child. • Schedule homework/study time. • Set up a place to study. • Encourage responsibility. • Yellow Homework Folder • Check Tuesday Folders for graded papers. • Keep up with grades on HAC. *** Please email both teachers AND Mrs. Wallner if your child will be absent, late, or checking out early!
