Aspen View Academy – History • Founded in May 2011 by a core group of parents & community members • Core Knowledge curriculum and structure chosen based on community input and surveys • Conditional Approval received from BOE on 12/13/11 • Our Mission: • Aspen View Academy will succeed through academic excellence in a challenging and stimulating environment that emphasizes math, technology and language arts enabling our students to become critical thinkers, responsible citizens, strong community members and future leaders. • Our Vision: • We recognize that an education is incomplete without fostering the arts, sports, nature, and character. Together, with our students, faculty, parents and community, we will develop civic and personal responsibility, intellectual passion and differentiated instruction in a safe, orderly & nurturing environment. • Core Knowledge Education with emphasis on Character Education through R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Program

  3. Character Education Program RESPECT - Showing high regard for an authority, other people, self and country. Treating others as you would want to be treated. R = Responsibility: Being honest and accountable in word and deed. Having a sense of duty to fulfill tasks with reliability, dependability and commitment. E = Empowerment: We believe children must be equipped with the ability to make good decisions independently of adults. By internalizing the habits and behaviors that demonstrate responsibility, they will be empowered to lead successful, productive lives. S = Sharing: Developing a willingness to share knowledge, experiences and time to enrich learning, give back to the community through school projects and constantly seek ways to improve through continuous input and feedback P = Patience: We strive to develop Aspen View students with a level of perseverance and diligence that will instill the confidence needed to succeed in whatever endeavor our students undertake E = Excellence: Striving to do the best in everything you do, while maintaining a positive attitude and a spirit of self-confidence C = Compassion: Caring in action. Current situation & Immediate Goals • Aspen View Academy has completed Land Concept Design with Hutton Architecture Studios • Aspen View Academy presented preliminary design concept to Town of Castle Rock on 5/7/12 • Town of Castle Rock to review and provide feedback in the next 7-10 days • Aspen View Academy will continue to partner with the Town of Castle Rock and DCSD to ensure we meet programming goals for adjacent park while minimizing neighborhood traffic impact. • Aspen View Academy working closely with Castle Rock Development Corporation to ensure execution of overall master plan

Programming & Approach • Aspen View Academy expect to include queuing and drop-off lane of approximately 900’ linear feet • Site concept includes partnership and input from Town of Castle Rock, including planning, Parks & Recreation, Utilities, etc. • Aspen View Academy intends to build one sports field adjacent to park sports field to allow for town programming of both fields through the signing of an IGA • Site specific planning may include some completion of park facilities; needs to be reviewed and discussed • Traffic impact study and traffic management plan will be completed prior to formal pre-submittal process

District Land Request • Land Location • Requesting the conveyance of Low Meadows Filing 18 to Aspen View Academy for new construction of a K-8 public charter school to open for 2013/14 school year • Low Meadows Filing 18 was donated by Castle Rock Development Corporation (CRDC) for a future school site • Major milestones required to complete entitlement process • Traffic impact study to be started no later than 5/21/12 • Site & Geo survey to be started no later than 5/21/12 • Neighborhood Awareness to be held by CRDC no later than 6/1/12 • Town Council review and approval process • Additional land options • Private land within the town of Castle Rock • Highmark School Development assistance for land acquisition

Land, Location & Build-out Options • Site concept design currently under review by Town of CR • Working with Town of Castle Rock to ensure smooth and seamless flow between school and adjacent park while minimizing neighborhood traffic impact • Partnering with DCSD for busing options to help mitigate traffic concerns • Next steps: • Town of Castle Rock to review site concept • Traffic impact to kick off no later than week of 5/21 • Soil & Geo tests to kick off on later than week of 5/21 • Schedule and deliver neighborhood impact meeting with Castle Rock Development Corp no later than 6/1/12 • Continued awareness through local town and community events • June 30, 2012 – Construction contract signed • Town Council review and approval process
