Health Professions Education: What is it ? • The HealthProfessions Education program isoffered in French and English. • An interprofessional program in collaboration with the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of HealthSciences.
Objectives and career possibilities • Support health professionals as they develop their educational expertise (e.g. pedagogy, evaluation of competencies) • Deepen health professionals’ understanding of teaching, learning and related issues • Nurture the next generation of educational leaders in health care settings • Contribute to research in health professions education.
What will our programs offer you? • Knowledge and skills in pedagogy, research, and teaching for the health professions • The ability to apply learning directly to clinical, teaching, management and policy roles • Opportunities to bring problems of practice to the classroom and learn how to solve these based on educational theory and evidence.

Graduate diploma • There is a requirement of 5 courses (15 credits) with a minimum of 4 courses taken from the following 5 themes • Teaching and learning • Curriculum • Learning assessment • Technology and education • Program evaluation • You can study part time or full time • Courses are offered generally in the evenings and in 3 formats: in class, hybrid (HYB) and online (WB)
M.Ed. • A minimum of 10 courses: • Three mandatory courses: • Introduction to research in education • Principles of educational planning for the health professions (Parts 1 and 2) (In hybrid form) • Four courses taken in each of the following themes: • Teaching and learning • Curriculum • Learning assessment • Technology and education • Three optional courses
M.Ed. • You can study part time or full time • Courses are offered generally in the evenings and in 3 formats: in class, hybrid (HYB) and online (WB)
M.A. and Ph.D M.A. Ph.D • 6 courses plus a thesis • 2 years full time study (6 sessions) • 3-4 years part time study • 5 or 6 courses plus a thesis • Four years full time study(12 sessions) • Part time study not available
Admission Graduate Diploma, M.A., M.Ed. an honours bachelor’s degree in Education or the equivalent (an honours bachelor’s degree in science, in health science or in a related field) and a minimum of at least 2 years of full-time teaching experience in a health related field in an accredited educational institution or in another teaching context (e.g., clinical supervision.) OR a university professional degree (such as an MD, BScN) or a graduate degree (Master’s or PhD) in science, in health science or in a related field. an overall average of 70% (B), calculated in accordance with FGPS guidelines.
Admission • Ph.D • A minimum average of B+ (75%), or equivalent, calculated in accordance with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (FGPS) guidelines. • A master's degree with thesis, or equivalent (Health Professions Education candidates must have a master’s degree with thesis in education, science, in health science or in a related field).
Scholarships* • Admission Scholarship M.A.: (Canadians and permanent residents) • 8.5 / 10 admission average • $ 7 500 per year for 2 years ($ 2 500 per semester / 6 consecutive semesters) • Research or teaching assistantships: • A minimum value of $ 7 500 per year, for 2 years • Admission Scholarship Ph.D (Canadians and permanent residents) • 8.0 / 10 admission average • $ 9 000 per year for 4 years ($ 3 000 per semester / 12 consecutive semesters) • Research or teaching assistantships: • A minimum value of $ 9 000 per year for 4 years • *Other funding opportunities may be available
