  1. Doc.: IEEE 802.11-09/0306r0 Proposal Regarding TGac Evaluation Approach Authors: Date: 2009-03-09 Rolf de Vegt, Qualcomm, Inc.

  2. Doc.: IEEE 802.11-09/0306r0 Introduction • Step 3 of the Draft Selection Procedure for .11ac reads as follows: “TGac shall adopt, through a 75% approval in the Taskgroup, a Functional Requirements document that must be met by the proposed specification, including System Level Performance Targets and Simulation Scenarios for those Targets” • This implies that there will be no specific ‘Comparison Criteria and Evaluation Methodology’ document • Taskgroup .11ad appears to be heading in the direction whereby a separate Evaluation Methodology will be created • The purpose of this document is to evaluate the two approaches and to provide a recommendation for taskgroup .11ac Rolf de Vegt, Qualcomm, Inc.

  5. Doc.: IEEE 802.11-09/0306r0 Pros and Cons of Including System Level Performance Targets and Simulation Scenarios in Functional Requirements document Pros: • Better fit with Spec Framework Model • System level targets and simulation scenarios at spec framework level • Detailed targets and comparison at the level of the functional blocks Cons: • May take longer to get the Functional Requirement Document approved Rolf de Vegt, Qualcomm, Inc.

  6. Doc.: IEEE 802.11-09/0306r0 Pros and Cons of separate Evaluation Methodology Document for .11ac Pros: • Consistency between .11ac and .11ad approaches • Possibly more rapid consensus on Functional Requirements document Cons: • Not a easy fit with the Spec Framework development approach Rolf de Vegt, Qualcomm, Inc.

  7. Doc.: IEEE 802.11-09/0306r0 Recommendation • Include System Level Performance targets and simulation scenarios in the Functional Requirements document • No separate evaluation methodology document for .11ac Rolf de Vegt, Qualcomm, Inc.
