Introduction • To be taken after completion of coursework • Fill in application to sit for CE exam form (hard copy form which will be distributed during the briefing) • Tentative Date for Comprehensive Examination: Date: 10 January, 2014, Friday (tentative) Time: 9.00 am – 12.00 noon Place: Bilik Al-Hadi, FBMK

  3. Introduction (cont…) • Students should be prepared for the CE. • Students should form study groups to review materials for CE. • Must aim to pass the CE at one sitting. • Cases of students not passing after re-exam is few. • Students MAY not graduate even though after passing CE.

  4. Objectives of Comprehensive Examination To evaluate the students’: overall understanding regarding the areas of study. ability to integrate knowledge of theories and research pertaining to issues fundamental in the field of study. understanding of relevant and up-to-date research design and methodologies.

  5. Objectives of Comprehensive Examination • Students must show an overall understanding of basic concepts and uses of communication theories, research methods, statistics, organizational communication, corporate communication, public relations and integrated marketing communication.

  6. Methods • A 3 hour in class examination • Closed book • Students must answer 3 questions from two sections (out of 7 total questions).

  7. Section A 1. Communication Theory 2. Communication Research Methods 3. Statistics for Communication Research

  8. Section B • Organizational Communication • Advanced Public Relations • Theory and Practice of Corporate Communication • Integrated Marketing Communication

  9. Students must answer one question from section A and one question from section B. The third question can be from either section. • Questions are written in English. • Students must plan their answers well, must be precise and concise in their writing. • Students need to manage time well – allocate one hour per question.

  11. Eligibilty • Students must have completed all credit requirements. • Must maintain a CGPA of 3.0 and above. • Must fill up the form ‘registration to sit for comprehensive examination’. • Has paid all tuition fees.

  12. Grading • Students are given a ‘pass’ or ‘fail’ result. • In order to pass, students must pass at least two questions (one from group A questions, and another from group B questions) and must pass the average of the 3 questions answered. • Passing mark is 50% for each question and for the average of the 3 questions. • Students will be informed of the results of the CE exam about 1 week after the exam was administered.

  13. Passing Requirements • Passing mark is 50% • Pass both sections with average mark of 50%
