  1. Thomson Gale PowerSearch Introducing our new online delivery system!

  2. Thomson Gale Online Delivery System • Thomson Gale’s “next generation” platform • Introduced in phases called “layers” • Product migrations will roll out in Q4 of 2004 and continue through Q1 of 2006 • No customer URL change required • Access to individual databases from library Web sites remains intact • Hundreds of customers participating in user interface and feature design

  3. Architecture

  4. Access from Library Web pages/portals does not change

  5. Common menu changes beginning in December 2004

  6. Searching a Single Database

  7. eBook results integrated into PowerSearch offers direct access to classic reference material without learning new product interface PowerSearch with eBook Content

  8. PowerSearch Quick-Notes • Researchers do not have to use PowerSearch — they can still access their databases EXACTLY as they do now (typically from the library Web site/portal that describes the database) • Using PowerSearch does NOT eliminate access to specific databases, specific search paths, indexes, limiters, sorters, etc. Only when searching multiple databases does the "lowest common denominator" factor come into play. And, we have designs that will address this issue — by making sure all disparate content sets can be accessed directly through an extension of the advanced search page • Researchers can start out searching multiple databases and then "dive deep" into very specific content sets

  9. PowerSearch Quick-Notes • PowerSearch on the new platform supports both v0.1 and v1.0 OpenURL standard for inbound and outbound linking • PowerSearch supports Z39.50, OpenURL, dynamic creation of stable URLs and 3rd party API for integrated metasearch access • Custom collections can be built and searched at the institution level, library level and user level • Named user feature will support saved subject and publication preference selections, alerts, language preference, etc. • Libraries can set preferences other than what the consortium has "dictated". (This is supported now.)
