  1. Ovulation Disorders in Women

  2. Ovulation Disorders in Women Some women may not ovulate and at times may not even be aware that they are not ovulating. An ovulation disorder may only come to light when a couple are trying to conceive. Usually it takes them a year or two before they realise that there may be a problem. They begin to identify their inability to conceive as a fertility issue and consult with a doctor. In most situations the female partner will visit a gynaecologist or a fertility consultant. What is an ovulation disorder? It is important for women to be aware of their fertility. A regular ovulation cycle is an essential part of your fertility health. Ovulation is the process in which the ovaries release a mature egg ready for fertilisation. If this egg is not fertilized then a woman has her normal menstruation cycle. This is a bleeding that occurs for the duration of 3 to 5 days and marks the start of the next fertility cycle. If a woman does not have her regular monthly menstrual cycle it is most likely that she has an ovulation disorder. Not having a menstrual cycle is one of the symptoms by which a woman can identify that she has a fertility problem and needs to medical seek help if she would like to plan a family. Symptoms of ovulation disorder The most obvious and common symptom of an ovulation disorder is not being able to conceive. If your menstrual cycle comes after a gap of 35 days or more from the last one and is not very regular, then it is a matter of concern. These are the most common symptoms of ovulation disorder and should a woman needs to get medical assistance to have it rectified.

  3. Ovulation Disorders in Women Anovulation The confusion occurs when a woman has a regular menstrual cycle and finds out that she is not ovulating. This is known as anovulation where a woman undergoes regular bleeding without ovulating. It is not pleasant to find out that what you were experiencing was not a menstrual cycle but something else. Anovulation bleeding is caused due to a build-up of oestrogen levels in the body which slowly builds up for ovulation and when ovulation does not occur, this level drops suddenly. The bleeding is caused by the oestrogen withdrawal and is known as oestrogen withdrawal bleeding. Another reason that some women might have anovulation is a condition known as oestrogen breakthrough bleeding. Endometrium buildup in the uterus lining may also cause bleeding which can be mistaken as a menstrual cycle. Symptoms of anovulation The most common symptom of anovulation is that the periods are irregular. A woman who has a menstrual cycle every 24 to 35 days has nothing to worry about. A woman who keeps track of her cycle will notice that her menstrual cycle is very erratic if she has an ovulation disorder. She may not have any bleeding for a long durations at a stretch. A woman who suspects that there may be a problem in her ovulation or fertility should consult with a doctor before trying to get pregnant.

  4. Ovulation Disorders in Women Polycystic ovarian syndrome is a very common ovulation disorder. Many women suffer from this condition and have erratic or no menstrual cycle. It is caused by multiple small cysts in the ovaries and hampers its normal functioning. Ovulation disorder affects the fertility of a woman. Some women who have been trying to conceive unsuccessfully find that they are not ovulating and hence have not been able to get pregnant. However, the good news is that with medial intervention it is possible to conceive even if you are not ovulating. Certain drugs are administered to stimulate the ovaries to ovulate.
