  3. What is it? This novel is a nonfictional novel autobiography novel about three men who made a pact to leave the streets and gang life to become Doctors. Attribute: The realistic setting were they grew up makes this an auto biography. Title: The Pact What is your book’s genre? Attribute: This novel is an auto biography because the main characters were alive with realistic characters. Attribute: The setting were they grew up makes this an auto biography. “They grew up in poor, broken homes in new jersey neighborhoods riddled with crime, drugs , and death… “ (1). “They family was gathered at university hospital in Newark” (126). “I believe the power of god was at work here. I was about to return as a doctor to the same hospital were I was born. I was going back home” (220).

  5. Attribute: The novel has everyday examples of their real lives. Even then, the projects had a reputation for regular stabbings, muggings, and shootings, but the 1980’s , the decade when I came of age, would usher in a new level of crime and violence that would make it hard for me to imagine survingin to the age of twenty-five” (17). “Frank and I walked past Twin City on our way to Elizabeth. By then, it had been turned into a supermarket. Dried blood was still on the pavement” (88). “It was a beautiful, sunny morning, and we arrived in our black caps and gowns and colorful hoods. My mother, my father, my grandmother, and most of my aunts and uncles, as well as my childhood friends” (221).

Attribute: This novel is an autobiography because the main characters were alive and other characters were all real. “Our mother, Ella Jenkins Mack, has always been the dominant figure in my life” (6). “That’s what drew me to Rameck and Sam. We had the same core desire to make something of our lives, and we brought out the best in one another” (108). “William Cortez was one of the first real friends I ever had” (241).

  7. EVALUATION: Is The Pact a good example of a nonfiction novel (autobiography)? • The novel The Pact is a very good example of a nonfiction novel or an autobiography. • They used life experience in the book. • They use real characters.
