  1. Opening Activity • Turn in your homework to the homework tray. • Sit in your seat and take out your notebook. • Answer the following in your notebook: • You are a factory worker in 1900. What are your top 3 concerns regarding your job and safety? • Think about the businessmen you learned about yesterday: were they trying to fix these concerns? Why/ why not? • Are these concerns still a problem for workers today? Why or why not?

  2. Agenda • Working conditions: Then and now • Triangle Shirtwaist Fire • Results of the fire- improving workplace safety TEXTBOOK TOMORROW

  3. Video 1 : Click to be taken to the video • How long has it been since the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire? • What are some of the problems that kept workers from reaching safety? • How did this event change business? • How does this event still affect people?

  4. Video 2: Click to be taken to the video • What were the workers like? • Any other reasons workers weren’t saved? • How long did the fire last? How many died? • How is this video different from the first?

  5. We may not see these problems anymore but they still exist! • Modern Examples: firesafety, childlabor (click each blue word to see a resource about labor issues today) • Why does this still exist? • What can Americans do?
