What is an ecosystem? • An ecosystem refers to the organisms which live in a particular area, the relationships between them, and their physical environment. • Ecosystems have two components: -biocenosis: is the set of living beings in the ecosystem. -biotope: is the inorganic part of the ecosystem, the physical environment.

  5. Biomes • A biomeis a large-scaleecosystems of theworld. • A fundamental classification of biomes are:

  6. Characteristics • Deciduous forest are found in regions with cold winters and abundant rainfall. • Deciduous forest has 4 seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. In autumn the leaves change of color. During the winter months the trees lose their leaves. • Is found in the temperate zone.

  7. Flora • Plants are adapted to survive in these conditions. Some trees have leaves that absorbs sunlight and water. • These trees lost their leaves and make the soil rich and fertile.

  8. Fauna • Many of theanimalsthatweknow are found in this kind of forest. • The animals adapt to the climate by hibernating in winter and living off the land in the other three seasons.
