  3. Prerequisite • Successful completion of English I and II OR Compacted English

  4. Expectations Regular attendance is a priority Demonstrate courtesy and respect to others in the way we speak and act Come to class each day prepared to participate in the learning experience Films are viewed with an open mind

  5. Policies • Late assignments receive a deduction of 10% for each day late • Passes given at teacher discretion but NEVER during a movie-3 per term maximum • Films missed due to absence must be made up outside of class time • My films are not for loan outside of school but many of the films can be rented from Family Video or Blockbuster

  6. Essential Questions of the Course • Does film reflect culture or shape it? • Is film quality totally subjective or are there universally accepted standards by which to judge a film? • What early film developments have most impacted film enjoyment for viewers today? • How does the narrative of a film impact ones enjoyment of the film as a whole? • How does cinematography enhance the overall meaning of a film? • How can acting impact the audience’s enjoyment of a film?

  7. Assessments • Class work • Includes class activities and writings • Class Participation • Includes participation in group and class discussions • Includes attentiveness during viewings • Projects/Tests • Typically four tests and one project

  8. Activity Talk to your assigned partner about the following question: • What qualities separate a good movie from one that is not good? • On post-it notes list characteristics of a “quality” movie. One characteristic per post-it note.

  9. Activity • Share one quality at a time • Create list of qualities • Vote for the 3 qualities that are most important to you
