Do You Remember? • We remember Simple Sentences, and we remember how to combine them in a variety of ways. • Notice that the above sentence has a comma and conjunction connection  • We’ve also learned Sentence Pattern 6; nevertheless, we still need some practice with it. • This pattern is one of the most difficult. • Most recently, we’ve learned Sentence Pattern 7: this pattern incorporates an introductory clause. • This is Sentence Pattern 7 and also includes a colon!

  4. Why was that cow relevant? • Think of this pattern as an interrupting cow adding information into the sentence. • Let’s look at the pattern first, and then more closely examine this rude cow. • Here’s the Pattern: S V MODIFIER , , SENTENCE PATTERN 8

Let’s Look at a Few More Examples • My friend Erica, a brassy girl, goes cow tipping with me every weekend. • The cow, an Australian milking zebu, doesn’t budge even when Erica shoves with all her might. • Erica, who wants to kill all the cows, goes home sad and hungry. • Notice in this sentence the tricky case of subject-verb agreement.
