WHAT IS CAREER COUNSELING? • Career Counseling is an intervention and a set of techniques and tools that identifies the person/clients' interests, passion, and personal & professional values. • The objectives of Career Counseling are to guide individuals to choose a suitable occupation and make better career-related decisions to enhance their growth and development. • The ratio of students to career counselors is significantly less. Studies have shown that career counseling needs to be an integral part of education.

  3. CAREER COUNSELORS AT SCHOOL Career Counselors are trained specialists who give advice and guidance to their clients to make better decisions. Career Counselors are also known as school counselors. Their responsibilities include: i) Administration of psychometric assessments ii) Preparation of reports iii) Resolve any career-related problems or dilemmas.

IMPORTANCE OF CAREER COUNSELING • School is the fundamental beginning career stage • Schooling is an excellent time to identify a child's strengths and weaknesses so that we know which areas they excel in and areas that require improvement. • Career Counseling also gives equal importance to extracurricular activities and understanding the child at a deeper level. • Career Counseling discovers hidden talent and enables the student to achieve and make a significant contribution to society.

  6. WHAT ARE PSYCHOMETRIC ASSESSMENTS? Psychometric assessments are tools in Career Counseling. These devices calculate and measure cognitive processes, for example, intelligence, aptitude, skills, values, personality, etc.

SCALES USED FOR SCHOOL STUDENTS i) Learning Styles Through the identification of the learning style used by the child, parents and teachers can apply teaching methods that will be most helpful for the student. There are a total of four learning styleS: a) Auditory learning b) Visual learning c) Kinesthetic learning d) Reading and Writing

  8. SCALES USED FOR SCHOOL STUDENTS ii) Personality The personality traits of students play a significant role in choosing their future occupation. For example, a person with strong communication and leadership skills can become a teacher.

  9. SCALES USED FOR SCHOOL STUDENTS iii) Career decision scale This career scale measures the confidence of a child regarding career decision-making skills. This psychometric assessment identifies how sure the student is about choosing an occupation.
