Assessment Objectives Assessment objective 1: Knowledge and understanding • Recall and select relevant historical knowledge • Demonstrate an understanding of historical context • Demonstrate an understanding of historical processes: cause and effect; continuity and change • Understand historical sources (SL/HL paper 1) • Deploy detailed, in-depth knowledge (HL paper 3) • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a specific historical topic (IA) Assessment objective 2: Application and interpretation • Apply historical knowledge as evidence • Show awareness of different approaches to, and interpretations of, historical issues and events • Compare and contrast historical sources as evidence (SL/HL paper 1) • Present a summary of evidence (IA) Assessment objective 3: Synthesis and evaluation • Evaluate different approaches to, and interpretations of, historical issues and events • Evaluate historical sources as evidence (SL/HL paper 1 and IA) • Evaluate and synthesize evidence from both historical sources and background knowledge (SL/HL paper 1) • Develop critical commentary using the evidence base (SL/HL paper 2 and HL paper 3) • Synthesize by integrating evidence and critical commentary (HL paper 3) • Present an analysis of a summary of evidence (IA) Assessment objective 4: Use of historical skills • Demonstrate the ability to structure an essay answer, using evidence to support relevant, balanced and focused historical arguments (SL/HL paper 2 and HL paper 3) • Demonstrate evidence of research skills, organization and referencing (IA)

Paper 1: DBQ Duration: 1 hour HL weighting: 20% max mark: 25 • Four short answer structured questions • All four short answer questions MUST be answered • Paper 1 uses a unique mark scheme per question • 5 sources will be analyzed • assessment objectives 1-3 • DP candidates will study 1 prescribed subject Three Prescribed Subjects • Peacemaking and peacekeeping and international relations 1918-1936 • Arab-Israeli conflict: 1945-1979 • Communism in crisis: 1976-1989

Paper 2: 20th century World Duration 1.5 hours HL weighting: 25% maximum mark: 40 (2 questions 20 points each) six extended response questions for each topic • 3 questions on named people , themes, topics, or events listed on syllabus • 2 open ended questions • one that either asks to compare two regions or based on quotation Students must answer two questions from different topics • Democracy: Challenges and responses • Causes, practices, and effects of war 3. origins and development of authoritarian and single party states. 4. Nationalist and independence movements in Africa and Asia and post 1945 central and european nations 5. Cold War

Paper 3: HOA Duration: 2.5 hours HL Weighting: 35% max mark: 60 (3 questions worth 20 points each) • 24 questions: 2 from each of the 12 sections • students must answer three questions, two may be from the same section • students will prepare for three sections • paper assess objectives 1-4 Aspects of the History of the Americas • Independence movements • Nation building and Challenges • Unites States Civil War: causes, course, effects 1840-1877 • Development of modern nations 1865-1929 • The Mexican Revolution • The great Depression and the Americas 1929-1939 • The second World War and the Americas 1933-1945 • Political developments in the Americas after the second wold war 1945-1979 • The cold war and the Americas 1945-1981 • Civil Rights and social movements in the Americas • into the 20th Century from 1980-2000
