  1. VIOLET – LET VIOLENCE GO! PROJECT Needs Analysis - UK With longitudinal study Lennox Adams

  2. Timescale From January 2011 to May 2011, RNC conducted a series of interviews to establish the need of the VIOLET Project The needs analysis was revisited between May and July 2012 as part of VIOLET Training.

  3. Aims • a) To identify the occurrence of violence with respect to VI young people • b) To identify the occurrence of violence with respect to VI young people in institutional settings • c) Special cases, e.g., cognitive impairment

  4. Survey Group 140 interviews Male: 60% Female: 40% Age 16 – 20: 50% Age 20+ : 50%

  5. Communication medium Very large - print 24+ point: 30% Large print – 16-24 point: 40% Standard print – 12-16 point: 15% Braille – 15%

  6. Understanding violence What is the meaning if the word “VIOLENCE”? Gave correct meaning: 80% Gave limited meaning: 20% Did not know meaning: 0%

  7. Understanding aggression What is the meaning of the word “AGGRESSION”? Gave correct meaning: 90% Gave limited examples: 10% Did not know meaning: 0%

  8. Understanding offence Have you been in a situation where you have been offended by a person’s words or gestures? YES, often: 70% YES, sometimes: 30% NEVER: 0%

  9. Extracurricular activities Do you participate in extracurricular activities? Only when I am at college: 20% Mainly at college: 40% Not at college: 5% Only when I am at home: 5% Mainly at home: 30% Not at home: 20%
