Who am I? • Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska • Came to California at the beginning of 1980 • Received a Bachelor of Arts in Theoretical Mathematics from UC Berkeley in 1983 • Worked at Caltrans for over 20 years in various capacities on many projects including the $1.3 Billion Cypress Replacement Project, the $1.2 Billion Presidio Parkway Project, and the $6 Billion new SFO Bay Bridge. • Written standards and specifications for RTK surveying, Laser Scanning including Mobile Lidar, etc. • Created and presented many surveying classes, seminars, and webinars.

Who am I? • National Science Foundation Panel Member for Transformative Undergraduate Education for Sciences and Engineering • National Academy of Sciences’ National Cooperative Highway Research Program Project Chair for Mobile Lidar • Member of the BPELSG’s LSTAC for 4 years • CLSA Caltrans Liaison 2001-2005 • CLSA Member of the Year – 2005 • CLSA Legislative Committee Chair 2006-2011: 8726 and Leg. Council Opinion Surveyors Liability • CLSA Conference Committee 2007-2010 • Current Member of CLSA Executive Committee

Roles and Responsibilities of the Executive Committee/Officers: • Generally speaking it is a 7-year commitment. • 2 years of being a rep, and then 5-years as an Officer. • The Executive Committee is comprised of Executive Director, the 5 officers, and two appointed Directors. • We conduct business on behalf of the organization between quarterly meetings via e-mails, phone conferences, and face to face meetings.

  6. A typical quarter for the Executive Committee: • We meet on the Friday before the meeting for 8 hours to discuss the agenda on Saturday, as well as topics we need to prepare for. • Saturday Meeting, approximately 6-8 hours. • Shortly after the meetings, we review the minutes for both the Executive Committee, and the Board meetings. • Review roles and responsibilities for any action items. • As requested, we review anywhere from 2-6 items in a quarter, that take anywhere from 2-12 hours on average. • Attend meetings as requested by the president, and represent CLSA in that role. • Dozens of emails, and a few conference calls as needed. • Periodic meetings to review documents such as Strategic Plan, committee charges etc.

Board of Directors • Asked to attend all four quarterly BOD meetings during the year. • Be a conduit of information between the Board and your local Chapter. • Participate in a committee at the State level. • Pass on information you receive to the Board, that affect our profession, for CLSA to consider. • Once the Board takes a position, it is to be accepted and unified throughout CLSA.
