  4. Media & Radio has Evolved Digital Media and the Music Industry in US In the digital age, consumers are inundated with different types of advertising. In 2004, The Economist claims that a consumer is exposed to more than 3,000 advertising messages everyday, explicitly and subtly. That said, a huge proportion of these messages are irrelevant. Consumers are running as far away from advertising and marketing as they can. Consumers are also taking control of their entertainment in new ways. Since the advent of social networking, P2P networking, digital media has been shared online, everything from music files to video. A number of important developments in the industry are detailed by a look at a series of statistics featured below: CDs: More than eight billion unrestricted sold since 1990; 33% of broadband households are ripping CDs to PCs P2P Networks: 20% of Internet households (26% of broadband households) are downloading files at least once per month Legal Downloads: 10% of Internet households (13% of broadband households) likely to purchase Internet music via a la carte downloads; 6% of Internet households (11% of broadband households) likely to purchase Internet music via subscriptions. Music Services: An estimated 400,000- 600,000 subscribers to on-demand music services in US alone Internet Radio: 20% of Internet households (31% of broadband households) listen to Internet radio broadcasts at least once per month Satellite Radio: More than three million subscribers as of Q3 2004 Radio Industry: 50% of all radio advertising dollars will spent on internet radio in 2008

  5. Media & Radio has Evolved • Listening to internet radio streams will continue to have explosive growth. Urban Trends is now projecting almost 150 million overall weekly listeners to this medium by 2010. As terrestrial radio continues to develop custom internet channels and successfully markets its main channel streams, our forecast is for these terrestrial radio simulcasts to become a larger part of all internet listening growing from about 20% of all internet listening in 2006 to 40% by 2020. • It is important to highlight the fact that while we are projecting that based on what we know today total weekly tune-in to terrestrial radio (AM/FM) will slowly fall. However, streams of content originated by terrestrial broadcasters will recapture much of this attrition. The above charts below shows how much of the Internet radio audience we estimate will be listening to streamed simulcast content. • This combination of Terrestrial radio on AM or FM and content streams will continue to give the medium significant market penetration well into the future. Despite audience attrition due to known and unknown alternate media by 2020 we are projecting that at least 77% of the U.S. population (258 million) will continue to tune in at least once a week. Difficult to project with confidence at this time is terrestrial radio's time-spent-listening fifteen years hence. • According to this updated data, the entire spectrum of digital audio alternatives, and especially Internet radio and its wireless distribution continue to represent the biggest challenge to traditional radio. Based on what we know now, we do not see HD radio significantly boosting listening to terrestrial radio. Digital Media and the Music Industry in US

  6. Media & Radio has Evolved Internet radio listening is primarily a work-hour phenomenon, with 75% of all on-line listening occurring between-5 a.m. Pacific and 5 p.m. Pacific. This is down from 81% in 2005. Increased at-home listening grew to 25% -5 AM to 5 p.m. and 79% 7 PM - midnight Monday through Friday. 15% of the week's listening took place over the weekend. 35% of Internet radio listeners were between the ages of 25 and 34. 60% were younger than 35, 33% were younger than 25, and 5% were older than 55. In 2005 75% of listeners were men; 25% were women. By the end of 2006 60% were men.
