Response to Instruction and Intervention in Global Studies Academy
The GS Academy Promise • The GS staff members will collaborate with each other, with the parents and with our partners to give the best to our students. • We will take care of our students through: • Mandatory Interventions • Celebrating Successes • We will prepare our students for: • Senior class multi-media and cross-curricular project • Model United Nations • Marketable job skills
Response to Intervention • Academic: In red folder in cum file • Tier 1 – differentiated instruction • Tier 2 – extra classes; support classes • Tier 3 – intensive (Read 180 special education referral) • Behavioral • Tier 1 – classroom rules and expectations implemented • Tier 2 – counselors, dean referral, COST, SST • Tier 3 – probation officer, referral to outside agencies Intervention is everyone’s responsibility
Academic Interventions • Mandatory Interventions • CAHSEE/CST prep classes for all 10th grade students who are scoring FFB, BB, and B in CST Math and/or English (Saturday) • CST prep classes for 11th grade students (Saturday) • Period 7 for seniors who have not passed the CAHSEE (daily) • Tutoring for students getting a D or F in a class – referral, follow-up, and follow through (M-Th)
Expectations for Students • ACADEMIC • Students will come to class ready to learn with all required materials • Students will complete all their assignments • Students will aim for academic excellence in all content areas • Students will attend all interventions recommended and required • Students will request for assistance to prevent failure • Students will develop global awareness
Expectations for Students • BEHAVIOR • Respect all people and things • Follow school rules • Take responsibility for your actions • Be a support and help to others
Positive Reinforcement • Attendance Awards every semester • Academic Excellence (includes rewarding “effort based learning)
Communication • Letters to students and parents as needed • Phone calls home as needed • Newsletters mailed home for updates on what’s happening • Parent Conference and “Coffee and a Conversation” once per semester • Call us anytime: (323) 981-5500 and ask for the Global Studies Office
