Mrs. Sessions’ Kindergarten Weekly Newsletter February 17 - 21, 2014 • Boot Scootin’ News • Shoebox Float Making – Wed., Feb. 19 @ 9:00 a.m. – Volunteers needed! • Friday, Feb. 28 @ 1:00 p.m. – School Mardi Gras parade – Volunteers needed! We also need a trailer and 4 wheeler. Please let me know if you have one and can come pull us for the parade. Please remember to send your child’s beads in small zip lock bags. • Mardi Gras Holidays – March 3 - 7 What We’re Learning • ELA – Unit 7 Weather – Key Skills • Review Letters Ee, Bb and Ll – letter and sound recognition • Reading Story – Bear Snores On • Describe different types of weather, how weather affects • people and animals, compare and contrast two different • seasons and explain the tools and methods meteorologists use • to predict the weather. • Listen and respond to fiction, informational text, photo essay • and folk tale • Retell a story, summarize; identify main idea and details, • develop fluency • Match the letter /e/, /b/ and /l/ to the sounds /e/, /b/ and /l/, • and blend words • Write Ee, Bb, Ll • Write, revise, and edit sentences • Math – Unit 4 – Key Skills • Count to 100 (by ones and tens) • Using comparative vocabulary to describe two sets of up to 10 • objects • Counting up to 20 objects • Adding • Subtracting • Finding number partners within 10 • Compare two objects with a measurable attribute in common • to see which object is more or less of the attribute • Social Studies/Science • Mardi Gras/Weather Student of the Week Roman Homework • Review sight words each night! • Read your super reader book each night! • Reading: Read “ We Can Do This” book to your parent. • Writing: Write and complete the sentence “_______ _______ and ______ in a bear cave.” Draw pictures to go with it. • Handwriting: Ee, Bb, Ll, and numbers page • Math: Subtraction pages 196 and 202 • Language: Phonics: /e/ page 153, /b/ and /l/ page 157 & 159, blending page 158, comprehension page 154. • Fairy Tale Homework • Science: Squirrel Watches the Weather Page • Return all homework on Fridays. • Show and tell on Friday. • Have a great weekend!
