Cell Comparison“All in the Family” Presented By: Landon Bryant
A cell is like………. • A cell is like a family, it has many differentparts that each have unique and important tasks they must perform in order to function properly.
The Nucleus • The Nucleus of the family is the father, the father is the one who is in charge of most everything that occurs in the house.
Cell Membrane • The Cell Membrane is likethe mother, she controls what comes in an out of thefamily. She must approve something before it can enter into the family.
Cell Wall • The Cell Wall is like the walls of the families house. It provides structure and support and keeps the family safe and secure. The cell wallis what surrounds the entire cell, like the wallsof a house surround afamily.
Endoplasmic Reticulum • The Endoplasmic Reticulum is like the hall ways of the families house. The hallways allow its residents to travel between one another and pass on information and energy.
Golgi Apparatus • The Golgi Apparatus is like the families mailbox or message center, it sends out various items and information to other members.
Mitochondrion • Are like the power linesgoing into the house. They provide energy forthe various other partsof the house (cell) to use.
Vacuole • The vacuole is like the maid of the house, the maid cleans organizes and stores the items of the house.
Ribosome's • The ribosome's are like the kitchen of the family. They are were energy (food) is produced so it can be used by all parts of the family (cell).
Plant and Animal Cells • Plant Cells • They have cell walls • They use photosynthesis • Are typically green from chlorophyll • Contain a chloroplast structure • Are square from the cell walls presence • And have one large central vacuole • Animal Cells • Have a Cytoskeleton • Use cell respiration • Typically white/pink/red from the presence of blood • NO chloroplast • No defined shape (rounded edges) • Many Small Vacuoles
Plant and Animal Cells (CONT) • Plant and Animal cells are similar in structure but they function in slightly different ways, Some similarities between the two are • They both use a structure for support and to give them a shape. • And they both use Cell Respiration to produce energy.*PLANTS also use photosynthesis.
