Munich (München) is the capital and largest city of the German state of Bavaria, the third largest city in Germany, after Berlin and Hamburg. St.Johann Nepomuk Church ("Asam Church“) is the former private church of the famous artists-brothers Cosmas Damian Asam and Egid Qurin Asam. Built from 1733 to 1746, it ranks among the finest Rococo style churches in the world. The interior is ornamented with a splendid fresco painting on the life of St.Nepomuk. Beside the church the home of E.Q.Asam. His house is connected to the chapel by a corridor and he could see the high altar from his bedroom window
In 1729-30, sculptor and stuccoist Egid Qurin Asam bought two properties here, which he converted into a family home for himself. Soon after, he acquired a plot of land next to his house, where in 1733 he began to built a church dedicated to the newly canonized S. John Nepomuk, a 14th-century Bohemian monk who drowned in the Danube. The church was completed in 1746
The Asamkirche is a long and narrow chapel occupying a slim space between two houses. Its façade features a large statue of St. Johann Nepomuk over the door
Saint John of Nepomuk (1345 – 1393) confessor of the queen of Bohemia, refused to divulge the secrets of the confessional. At the behest of King Wenceslaus of Bohemia he was thrown from the Charles Bridge in Prague and drowned. John of Nepomuk is patron saint of bridges
S. Johann Nepomuk church, better known as the Asam Church (Asamkirche) was built by the brothers Asam as their private church
A heart shaped memorial placate, surrounded by angel statues, on the upper part of the Asamkirche facade, with a text in Latin, stating: “Fides Spes Charitas In Ioanne Unitas” or “Faith Hope Charity in Holy Unity”
Due to resistance of the citizens, the brothers were forced to make the church accessible to the public
The tall wooden doors lead into an oval-shaped nartex containing Rococo confessionals decorated with symbolic figures
St. Jerome (Hieronymus) St. Peter
In the nartex are two confessional boxes. Egid Quirin Asam designed the church as Beichtkirche (confession church) for the youth. So the small church has seven confessionals with allegorical scenes.

The chapel's dimly lit interior, consisting of a single narrow nave, leaves no surface undecorated. Multiple frescoes are surrounded by rich red stucco by the Asam brothers and gilded woodwork
Occupying a slim space between two houses, the church is small and narrow in shape, with just 12 rows of pews
