  1. Lesson 46Classify Organisms Part 2

  2. Let’s take a closer look at the various parts of the food chain.

  3. How is organic matter used in a food chain?

  4. In our last lesson we learned that producers convert energy from the sun into organic matter through the process of photosynthesis.

  5. We also learned that this organic matter (glucose or carbohydrates) is used by producers and consumers as food which provides the energy that fuels basic life processes.

  6. What role does the sun have in a food pyramid?

  7. The Sun provides the energy that is used by the Plants. The Sun is the original source of energy in all food chains on the surface of the Earth and in the upper parts of the Oceans.

  8. Plants and algae are our producers. They make their own food from the energy created by the sun and with the help of water and carbon dioxide.

  9. Consumers get their energy from eating producers.

  10. Some consumers consume other consumers as a food source.

  11. Let’s watch a video about consumers and producers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnffYkN1UDk

  12. Producers and consumers produce wastes as they perform their life processes, and become waste organic matter when they die. This organic matter goes back into the ground to fertilize the soil.

  13. Decomposers use these waste materials and other non-living organic matter to fuel their life processes and recycle nutrients that are necessary for producers to carry out their life processes.

  14. Let’s watch a video about decomposers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cf1-CMXZaX8

  15. Let’s watch a video about producers, consumers and decomposers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuObvHwOHRM

  16. Let’s review what we have learned from this lesson. Answer the attached questions on the worksheet entitled L#46 classify organisms part 2.

  17. In our next lesson we will learn more about the relationship between plants and animals.

  18. Good Job Today! And remember to….

  19. See you next time!
