Rationale: why are wedoingit? • Opportunity to build on existing Adel-Los Guindos visits and links • Requirement to upskill primary teachers – both regions • Interest in cross curricular working • Interest in expanding language training in Leeds Met beyond French • Interest in increasing use of Take 10 in Spanish • Bilingual schools programme in Andalucia
Comenius Regio Partnerships • 53 national bids – 46 projects awarded • Maximum amount €45,000 • 10 maximum awards – 3 to Leeds • 2 years of project ends July 2011 • STRATEGIC – authority to authority not school to school
Comenius Regio Partnerships An opportunity for Local and Regional Authorities to form sustainable European partnerships Partners: Picasso Museum, Malaga, Malaga Education Authority, Education Leeds, Adel Primary School, I.E.S.SierraAlmijaraNerja, PHGS, Adel Primary School, Los Guindos Malaga, CEIP Rural Salvador Rueda, Malaga University, Leeds Met University Projects last for 2 years but the impact should be felt longer
Main aims - Primary • develop teacher linguistic skills and intercultural understanding; cross curricular materials – Art and PE. • Use Picasso and Henry Moore • Take 10 in Spanish and English (‘wake up and shake up’ style resources) • Opportunities for 1 week visits to partner city and schools

Main aims - Secondary • Develop a joint cross curricular project using Picasso and Henry Moore. • Work in MFL and Art

Main aims – Higher Ed • Provide students with a supportive environment, working with practitioners and each other to explore working in the other culture and language • Explore the possibility of Erasmus/bilateral links, to exchange students for teaching practice experiences
Main aims – Picasso Museum • Provide students and teachers with resources and ideas for teaching art • Learn more about key artists from each culture • Although not a partner in the project, work with Leeds Art Gallery to provide linked training
