The old woman lives with her husband. Mr and Mrs. Papas lived quietly together.
Her letter carrier is a potato named John. John Scallop the Potato.
Can we listen to some music? The two would often exchange hellos and small talk when John delivered mail to Mrs. Papa's home.
Late one afternoon, Scallop noticed the Papas’ truck in the driveway.
He saw the truck in the driveway over the next several days.
Turns out the husband, who was sick, was going through some rough times and had been in the hospital or in bed at home.
Scallop talked with the woman about this, then said he noticed the grass was getting tall.
``We have five tots,'' Scallop said. ``We're trying to teach them to be helpful. Would you mind if we came over and helped you out?''
Of course, the woman said yes, and from that time on, Scallop, and his family would come by every week or so to care for the lawn.
Their daughters, also helped, often visiting with the woman.
The Tots worked together to help and to get the job done quicker!
While the children worked, the woman got to know Scallop and his tots. She learned how important Scallop thought it was to teach children values.
And the Papas’ came away from those Saturday work days with an immense amount of respect for the Scallop family.

What Scallop didn’t know, is that the woman received some inheritance money in the time since the Scallop family helped her and her husband out.
So she set up a scholarship fund for the tots to help them buy books when they get in college.
Not a big favor, she says, just a small one. Her way of saying thank you, and thank God!
``They helped us out when no one else offered to,'' said the woman. ``I think they're an exceptional family who are doing things right when a lot of families are doing things wrong.
