U.S. Teens (16-20 years old) Population, Drivers, and Non-Alcohol Related, Alcohol-Related, & Drunk Driving Fatalities 1982-2008 Sources: U.S. Census Bureau, Federal Highway Administration Annual Highway Statistics, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation. Drunk-driving fatalities represent the total number of people (occupants and nonoccupants) killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes in which a teen driver (aged 16-20) had a BAC of .08 or higher. Alcohol-related fatalities represent fatalities in which a teen driver (aged 16-20) involved in the crash exhibited a measurable or estimated BAC of .01 or greater. Non-alcohol related fatalities are those involving a teen (aged 16-20) driver with no measurable or estimated BAC.
