Fisherman of People Mark 1:14-20
Jesus ministry commencesWhy did Mark have John imprisoned first? Introduction
What does the word “Gospel” mean? Swartacomes from the root swr which means to “hope, trust, declare, announce, tell, bring news and publish abroad.” A fair translation is the joyful “message, hope or expectation.”
What does the word “Gospel” mean? • Evangalion came from the Greek language. Aramaic nouns that end in “iom” are loaned words from Greek. This word means “good news.” It has a secondary meaning in Greek – one of absolution when a king ascends to the throne.
What does the word “Gospel” mean? • Karozutais derived from the root word krz which means to “preach, declare, make known, announce, and publicly celebrate.” Yeshua said that the joyful announcement of the LORD’s reigning presence was about to come.
What does the “kingdom” mean? • Malkutais derived from the root mlkh means to “advise, counsel, reign, and rule.” A king was also considered a counselor. Yeshua said that the LORD would start working among the people in their daily lives.
What does it mean to be fishers of men? • The Aramaic word for fishers is sayadeh. This word means “hunters.” Aramaic speaking people in Yeshua’s day used this same word for “fishermen” and for bird hunters. “I will make you fishers of men” is a metaphorical expression that means “you will catch and persuade men by your speech.”
For Us Today • The Kingdom of God is a PROCESS and not a one day event • It is through our words and the actions of the LORD that we can convince people to join our Christian family • Evangelism is difficult • My experience with evangelism
Learn how to talk about Jesus. Evangelism is going to save the faith.
