  1. Living in a Torahless Society Testing our knowledge of the Law of God

  2. NKJ Matthew 22:29 . . . "You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.

  3. Two Firefighters Killed in New York An ex-con who lured firefighters to their deaths in a blaze of gunfire left a rambling typewritten note saying he wanted to burn down the neighborhood and "do what I like doing best, killing people," police said.Police Chief Gerald Pickering said 62-year-old William Spengler, who served 17 years in prison for the 1980 hammer slaying of his grandmother, armed himself with a revolver, a shotgun and a military-style rifle before he set his house afire to lure first responders into a death trap before dawn on Christmas Eve.

  4. Two firefighters were shot dead and two others are hospitalized in stable condition. Spengler killed himself as seven houses burned around him Monday on a narrow spit of land along Lake Ontario. Spengler fired at the four firefighters when they arrived shortly after 5:30 a.m. Monday to put out the fire, Pickering said. The first police officer who arrived chased the gunman and exchanged shots.

  5. NKJ Deuteronomy 22:1 "You shall not see your brother's ox or his sheep going astray, and hide yourself from them; you shall certainly bring them back to your brother. 2 "And if your brother is not near you, or if you do not know him, then you shall bring it to your own house, and it shall remain with you until your brother seeks it; then you shall restore it to him.

  6. Served 17 years in prison for killing his mother • Exodus 20:13 – Murder • Was not put to death • Genesis 9:6 "Whoever sheds man's blood, By man his blood shall be shed . . . • Judge did not know Torah • Deut. 1:15-17 Judges are to be knowledgeable of Torah • Law applied un-equally to obtain a plea bargain • Deut. 25:13 Unequal weights and measures • Numbers 25:35 Manslayer is confined to prison till the death of the High Priest • Should have at least been confined to prison till the death of the High Priest

  7. School Shooting - Newtown, Conn. The 20-year-old killer, carrying at least two handguns, committed suicide at the school, bringing the death toll to 28, authorities said.   The rampage, coming less than two weeks before Christmas, was the nation's second-deadliest school shooting, exceeded only by the Virginia Tech massacre that claimed 33 lives in 2007. Law enforcement officials speaking on condition of anonymity said Lanza shot his mother, Nancy Lanza, then drove to the school in her car with at least three guns, including a high-powered rifle that he apparently left in the back of the vehicle, and shot up two classrooms around 9:30 a.m.

  8. Adam Lanza was the product of a broken home • Gen. 2:24 – A man shall cleave to his wife. • Mind full of violence • Numbers 15:39 - we are to not follow after our own heart and eyes • Upset about his mother’s intent to get him professional help • Lev. 19:18 - bear a grudge • Mother failed to protect against a hazard – her guns • Deut. 22:8 – build fence around your roof • He killed his mother • Exodus 21:15 – striking his mother or father

  9. Fiscal Cliff – Washington DC Washington hasn't sent you a parachute, yet it's pushing the nation off the fiscal cliff anyway. So it's time for ordinary people to figure out how the shenanigans in Washington will affect them.  Democrats and Republicans seem unable to make any kind of deal to prevent a huge set of tax hike and spending cuts from going into effect at the start of 2013. The media tends to refer to the cliff as if it's one huge measure that will instantly cause a recession if Congress does nothing to stop it. But the cliff really involves several different tax and spending policies that will affect taxpayers in many different ways, not all of them right off the bat.

  10. Leaders are more concerned about buying votes than leading • Deut 16:19 – a gift blinds the eyes • King did not write a copy of the Torah • Deut. 17:18 – King shall write a copy of the Torah • The people are to take care of the poor – not government • Deut. 15:7- do not shut your hand to the needy • Politicians Favor the poor • Ex. 23:3– do not show favor to the poor • Promises made that cannot be kept • Deut 23:24, Lev.19:12 – fulfill your oath • Different tax rates for rich and poor • Deut. 25:13 – different weights and measures

  11. Deut 16:19 – a gift blinds the eyes • Leaders are more concerned about buying votes than leading • Rich (job creators) are being penalized • Deut. 25:4 – Do not muzzle your ox • Poor are not even being required to glean the field • Lev. 23:22 – poor are required to glean the field • King “takes” your income • 1 Sam 8:11-14 - the king will take your fields and vineyards. • Promises made that cannot be kept • Deut 23:24, Lev.19:12 – fulfill your oath • Different tax rates for rich and poor • Deut. 25:13 – different weights and measures

  12. Dentist Fires Worker to Save Marriage An Iowa dentist acted legally in firing a long-time assistant because he - and his wife - viewed the married mother as a threat to their marriage, the all-male Iowa Supreme Court ruled Friday. The court ruled 7-0 bosses can sack employees they see as an 'irresistible attraction,' even if they have not engaged in flirtatious behavior or otherwise done anything wrong. While her former boss claimed her clothes were so tight he couldn't look at her without being aroused, Nelson said the only outfit she wore to work was standard scrubs worn by many nurses and assistants in dental offices. The dentist consulted with a local pastor, terminated Nelson and gave her one month’s severance. Knight later admitted to Nelson’s husband that he feared he would eventually try to start an affair.

  13. NKJ Matthew 5:28 "But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. ESV 1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. NKJ Genesis 2:24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

  14. If action had not been taken . . . • Aide’s husband suspects wife of adultery (this could apply to both parties) • Numbers 5:12 – If any man’s wife goes astray and behaves unfaithfully toward him . . . • Adultery could have been committed • Lev. 18:20 – You shall not lie carnally with your neighbor’s wife • Death of the adulterers • ESV Leviticus 20:10 "If a man commits adultery with the wife of his neighbor, both the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

  15. "We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion . . . Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.“ John Adam - 1798

  16. Deuteronomy 6:10-12 "And when the LORD your God brings you into the land that he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you- with great and good cities that you did not build, 11 and houses full of all good things that you did not fill, and cisterns that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant- and when you eat and are full, 12 then take care lest you forget the LORD, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

  17. Deuteronomy 31:10-12 . . . "At the end of every seven years . . . 11when all Israel comes to appear before the LORD your God at the place that he will choose, you shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing. 12 Assemble the people, men, women, and little ones, and the sojourner within your towns, that they may hear and learn to fear the LORD your God, and be careful to do all the words of this law . . ."
