  2. A Scary Thought! • According to James Daly, editor in chief of Edutopia magazine, the average supermarket has changed more in the past five years than the average school district has changed in the last 50!

  3. Why Technology? • Technology skills are essential skills in the workplace • Technology integration brings real world relevance into the classroom • Students can help construct their own knowledge

  36. Where do I begin? • Technology integration leads to new ways of thinking and fundamental changes in how we approach teaching. • Technology integration is based upon “constructivist” learning methods. • Begin thinking of yourself as a learning facilitator or guide rather than an instructor.

Getting Started • First of all, think about your curriculum • What is the primary focus each six weeks? • Where could you plug in technology integrated lessons? • Start with one six weeks and develop a lesson. • Find a techie on your campus and share ideas or lesson units. • Modify lessons that have already been made (there are literally thousands on the Internet). • Get connected and get excited. Attend technology workshops. • Take a little time each day to surf the net or learn something new.

  38. 10 Steps to Success • Select a skill you want to help students master. • Find Internet resources to support your plan. • Go online and see what other teachers have done with technology projects. • Design your project with a specific end result in mind. • Set specific beginning and ending dates for your project. • Enlist the help of responsible students to help launch your project. • Develop a rubric or set of guidelines for grading. • Make sure students have the opportunity to present their final projects and presentations. • Get feedback from students on the project. • Do a follow-up analysis on the project. What went right? What went wrong? How could it be better next time?

For GT students or inspired students always add Extension or Enrichment activities. • V. Develop an evaluation scale or rubric for the technology integrated lesson. • VI. Develop a wrap up activity.
