  1. Curs de termografie clinica Tampa,Florida Septembrie 2006

  2. Provide information on thermal imaging – noting the non-invasive aspect. Advise to wear loose fitting garments on day of test. Try not to use creams on body Avoid getting too much sun Note any moles, scars etc. Try to avoid smoking Avoid strong exercise or physiotherapy on day of exam.

  3. Recommendations to subject prior to test – use handout sheet – Thermal imaging is a very efficient and easy test when conducted properly. Note any drug therapy Have a mat for feet & place for jewelry Avoid chairs for back exams Standardize distances - Use a measuring tape and make markings. Record settings on patient chart for repeat studies on same subject.

  4. Two Commercial Materials:

  5. Wavelength for clinical infrared imaging 8-12 micron is preferable NEDT – noise equivalent Delta T – temperature differences Radiometric aspect – be able to measure specific temperatures on the image. Cooling methods – LN2 is the most stable at temperature, does not vary – low noise – the gold standard – quicker to temperature – excellent for clinical. Thermal range – physiological – for clinical applications, the operator should not have to worry about pre-setting this range.

  6. Be able to repeat exact elements Subject should not be sweating or overly cold. Delayed equilibration protocol is debatable in the medical literature. Room Temperature factors - Keep room comfortable for patient. No abnormal drafts. For sympathetic/vascular – 22-24 Celsius to avoid reflex vasoconstriction. Lighting issues Avoid incandescent lighting in test area or direct sunlight. Have a wall thermometer – document temperature at time of test. Time of Day factors – be aware of influence of the Circadian Rhythm. Most stable period of day is between 9 and 11:30 a.m.

  7. Documentation • Have good input forms for staff • Use representative images in report – transfer to word processing document. Hard to refute when combined with good narrative. • Use the power of the Internet & PC’s • SYMMETRY IS THE NORM – ideally one side of the body should have the same thermal distribution as the other side. Determine how far out of symmetry the subject appears on the thermal image.

  8. Image Analysis & Reports • Pros & Cons of Third Party Reading Provides second opinion, but third parties do not have complete familiarity with the patient. Third party readers should have familiarity with specialty area or health area involved. • Automated Reports – issues of liability if there are errors in programming. Use stored phrase library system with word processor. Reports can be kept concise. It’s not solely diagnostic at the current time. • Audio notes – can be stored in word processing. • Explain equipment and describe facility • What is hot and what is not and where – start with this when looking at the image. • Relate to Anatomy – Thermal Landmarks
