For Early Years settings the Statutory Framework for the EYFS makes it clear that: • …providers should deliver individualised learning, development and care that enhances the development of children in their care and gives those children the best possible start in life. Every child should be supported individually to make progress at their own pace and children who need extra support to fulfil their potential should receive special consideration. Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage, p9 paragraph 1.13 • ‘Meeting the individual needs of all children lies at the heart of EYFS.’ • providing the best possible start in life • providing an inclusive setting that promotes equality of opportunity • breaking down barriers to learning • inclusion is not optional: children have defined entitlements in this area and settings have legal responsibilities

How the materials are organised:according to the four Themes of the EYFS
Strategic approach Practitioners are encouraged to reflect on how they can apply the strategies described in the materials to the work they do in their settings. WHAT WE WOULD EXPECT HEADTEACHERS/SENCO TO DO: • Provide opportunities for staff to access the materials; - The booklet and DVD should be used in a group with colleagues - The booklet and DVD should form the basis of continuous professional development (CPD) sessions • Have it as part of their SEF • National Strategies Website for Early Years IDP http://www.nationalstrategies.standards.dcsf.gov.uk/search/inclusion/results/nav:46335
