The University has three site libraries which include : The Murray Library : Cultural Studies, Health, Natural and Social Sciences, Performing Arts, Secondary and Post-compulsory Education St Peter’s Library : Business, Computing, Education, Engineering, Law, Media, Psychology, Tourism Ashburne Library : Design, Fine Art, Glass & Ceramics, History of Art & Design, photography, video & Digital Imaging

When are the libraries open? • Murray Library and St. Peter’s Library are open 24/7 during main teaching weeks • You will need your Campus Card to access 24/7 self service opening hours • Ashburne Term Time Opening Hours: 9:00am – 8:00pm Monday to Thursday 9:00am – 5:00pm Friday 10:00am – 1:00pm Saturday You can find out when the libraries are open by : • Seeing the notices outside the Library • Looking on the library’s website • Picking up a leaflet • Asking a member of library staff

  4. How do I get a library card? Pick up your library card/campus card from the Student Gateway Strictly non-transferable Report its loss immediately

  5. How do I use the library computers? • You need your 6 digit User ID and Password to : • log on & print from Library computers • access your email account • If you haven’t already done so, you can change your password from your date of birth using Self Care on My Sunderland.

  6. Why do I need a University email account? • To receive important University emails • Messages from the Library • Check this account regularly • Your Athens username and account : to use the library’s electronic resources

  9. What can we offer you? • Study places • Printed resources – e.g. books and journals • Electronic resources – e.g. subject databases • Computer clusters • Printing & photocopying – • A4 black & white 5p, colour 30p • Laptop loans • Wireless access • Scanning • Specialist help

  10. Finding Library Materials on the Library Catalogue Use library catalogue to: • Locate items in the libraries • Place reservations • Check your account & renew your loans • Search other university library catalogues

  11. Electronic Sources Your Athens Account is automatically emailed to your University email account. This means you can access the online journals and electronic databases.

  12. Assignment Services You will be informed by your tutor where to hand in and collect your assignments and the date and time before which they must be submitted. You can check our Assignment Services online blogs to find out when your work has been marked and is ready for collection.

Get help from us • During induction and the beginning of term, you will be overwhelmed with the amount of new things to learn. • So please : • Look at the library website • Check out the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) • Speak to a member of library staff. • Email us • Visit the library induction displays where further information including bookmarks and sweets can be found!

LiveChat • There is no longer any need to wait for an email response to your query as Live Chat is a service that enables us to provide you with instant real-time help and support no matter where you are.  • Through Live Chat we can: • Chat to you online and answer your queries using instant messaging • Send you web links to relevant web pages and  information sources • Use screen sharing (desktop sharing) to help demonstrate how to use our web pages and resources. • Check the library website for hours when this service is available.
