SESSION 8: WORK PROGRAMME FUTURE JUSTICE- THEMES • Future Justice Programme – A World of Equity and Dignity • Themes: • 1) Accountable Institutions & Governance • 2) Human Rights, People with Disabilities • 3) Holistic Science & Education • 4) Health & Quality of Life • 5) Arts & Media • Policy work in the themes 3 – 5 will be postponed until further funding is available.
SESSION 8: WORK PROGRAMME FUTURE JUSTICE - OVERALL GOAL • To develop a comprehensive legal and policy framework that guarantees human security, ecological integrity, and social equity in the interest of future generations.
Session 8: Work programme FUTURE JUSTICE- Achievements • Effective, high level presence and visibility at the Rio+20 negotiations with highly regarded advocacy work to promote Ombudspersons for Future Generations. • Established as a leading authority and source of knowledge on future generations and how best to incorporate the needs of future generations in our decision making processes. • Effective, long standing partnerships established with a wide diversity of organisations and institutions. • Active social media presence during Rio • Broader awareness on intergenerational equity and how to better implement it.
SESSION 8: WORK PROGRAMME FUTURE JUSTICE– THREE YEAR PERSPECTIVE AND STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES Three-year perspective and strategic objectives • Work Area 1 (Theme Accountable Institutions & Governance): Ombudspersons for Future Generations Deliverables: • • Follow up on Rio+20 outcomes, including influencing the SG report on future generations and its relevance to other post Rio+20 processes. • Establish active support at the EU level, including strengthening existing EU • Ombudsmen. • Work at the national level to support the establishment of institutions or • supportive themes and monitor progress of those already established. • • Co-ordination of civil society policy positions and activity on the report and the issue of representing future generations, including media coverage. • Communicate future justice message as a positive vision for policy change. • Fundraise to finance campaign in 2013 and beyond.
SESSION 8: WORK PROGRAMME FUTURE JUSTICE– Discussion • Crimes Against Future Generations • Commissioning a broader body of work which introduces a justifcation to revise the international legal system by exploring 10 ( or so) key principles demonstrating the application of recognising future generations in law, based upon: • - ancient non Western cultures • - indigenous knowledge and practices • - religious beliefs • - ancient philisophy • - national constitutions • With the endorsement from leading international legal figures – as possible Ambassadors

SESSION 8: WORK PROGRAMME FUTURE JUSTICE– THREE YEAR PERSPECTIVE AND STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES Work area 2 (Theme Accountable Institutions & Governance): Alternative Indicators of Progress Deliverables: • Engage with the promoters of Germany’s ‘National Welfare Index’ including • the Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMU) to develop a joint plan to help overcome barriers • Active participation in joint consortium meetings (next: Delft, The Netherlands, Feb 2013) • Assisting new economics foundation (nef) in the development of a Beyond • GDP online platform. • Development of communication materials on the benefits of Beyond • GDP indicators. • Targeted networking to assist work of the project and consortium. • Enhancing media coverage / publications.
SESSION 8: WORK PROGRAMME FUTURE JUSTICE– THREE YEAR PERSPECTIVE AND STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES • Work area 1 (Theme Human Rights, People with Disabilities): Advocating the human rights of persons with disabilities • Deliverables: • 18-19 February 2013: Second Zero Project Conference on • “Employment Rights of Persons with Disabilities: Innovative Policies and Good Practices” in Vienna, Austria together with the Essl Foundation and • Bank Austria, in collaboration with the International Labour Organization • Promoting the printed report and dedicated websites • Fundraising for policy toolkits, parliamentary hearings and an international • parliamentary network
