Sachin Tendulkar Says World Cup In Tests Should Take Place In Every Four Years Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar has said that the World Test Championship (WTC) should take place every four years like the World Cup. However, India and New Zealand will play against each other in the inaugural World Test Championship final in Southampton from June 18 and the winner will get a cheque of $1.6 million as well. “Maybe to generate even more interest, it could become like a World Cup. A World Cup is not played all across the globe. World Cup is played in just one or two countries,” Tendulkar said in a telephone interview to Reuters on Tuesday. “We need to decide which are the countries where you can host test championship. And within possibly those two months, you just play test championship. If you are playing one match against each other, then to play final just as a one-off game also makes sense.   2. Notably, this World Test Championship cycle has started two years ago and all the teams have played several Test in this cycle. After the end of the time period, the top two teams in the points table will take on each other in the final. In this case, India and New Zealand are the top two teams. While India last beat England at home earlier this year, New Zealand won the recently- concluded Test series 1-0 against England as well. And, many back the Kiwis in the much- awaited WTC final considering their record as well.
