  1. TYPES OF HEAT PUMPS By: Souvonik De

  2. Objective • Present the most common types of heat pumps • Describe the workings of each type of heat pump

  3. Most Common Types • Air source electric heat pumps • Dual fuel heat pumps • Geothermal heat pumps

  4. Air Source Electric Heat Pumps • Packaged heat pumps • Compressors and both heat exchangers located outside home • Split-system heat pumps • Indoor air-handling unit and heat exchanger are separate from the compressor and the outdoor exchanger • Triple-function heat pump • Free-delivery split-system heat pump

  5. Dual-Fuel Heat Pumps • Both electric heat pump and a gas furnace in one • When T > -35°F approximately, functions as an electric heat pump • When T < - 35°F approximately, the heat pump automatically switches to supplemental gas heat

  6. Geothermal Heat Pumps • Do not develop heat from surrounding air • Instead, they extract heat from below the earth’s surface … WHY? • Underground network of pipes and heat pumps located inside the house. • Efficient, comfortable and quiet heating
