Our History of Setting Young People up for Success • Over 10,000 trainees successfully completed since 1994 • We currently employ 220 Indigenous trainees and over 20% of our • staff are Indigenous • Less than 30% of our trainees placed within football industry. We partner • with all sorts businesses, from the four big banks and Australia Post to a myriad of S2M businesses

Setting Young People up for Success • On the job + education = Certificate III or IV in Business (contextualised with arts and creative industry case studies) • EVERY ORGANISATION OF ANY KIND, BIG AND SMALL, NEED PEOPLE WITH ADMINISTRATION, BUSINESS SKILLS, TECNICAL/I.T. SKILLS • Success = permanent, portable, nationally recognised skills • Most of our trainees transition to full time employment within the organisation, continue in other parts of the sector or pursue further study

Indigenous Employment Program • AFL SportsReady developed our Indigenous Employment Program (IEP) in 2000 • Targeted model providing mentoring, presentations, workshops and cultural awareness training for Indigenous young people and host employers • Our IEP delivers trainee retention, engagement and a clear transition to employment or further education for youngIndigenous people • We have successfully delivered employment and education to over 1,200 Indigenous trainees • 220 Indigenous trainees working with our host employers nationally • 20% of our staff are Indigenous and we have highly trained Indigenous Mentoring Field Officers in each State • In 2013, we developed our own RTO Executive Certificates in Professional Mentoring; Cultural Awareness, and other Indigenous education programs

VAPAC and ArtsReady • The opportunity exists for VAPAC, its members and ArtsReady to partner in developing traineeship options for Victorian performing arts centres: • PACs to look at opportunities to take trainees in existing and/or new roles in administration, marketing, events, technical and other back of house roles including box –office functions. • We can work with VAPAC’s Box Office Managers as well as Technical Managers’ Network to develop model role descriptions that can be adapted for each PAC individually • Look at the Indigenous employment within your organisation including your larger Council and consider how ArtsReady can partner to address numbers (incl. RAP targets) • Consider supporting young people into paid ‘earn and learn’ roles from your municipality and keeping them in your/their area - growing capacity and addressing youth unemployment in your region

Current examples • We have a number of ArtsReady trainees in place in cultural organisations: • Centre for Contemporary Arts Cairns – an Indigenous trainee is working an average of 20-30 hrs per week and undertaking a Certificate III in Live Production, Theatre and Events (Technical Production) with a local RTO • Ticketmaster, Melbourne - a 22 year old woman is working as a Customer Service/Ticketing agent and undertaking ArtsReady’s Certificate III in Business • Australia Council for the Arts – three trainees working in business administration including learning their archiving (TRIM) system, plus events and marketing and undertaking ArtsReady’s Certificate III in Business • * HOT NEWS: Currently recruiting for Bangarra Dance Theatre – a Production Trainee

Current examples • We have a number of ArtsReady trainees in place in schools: • Phoenix P-12 Community College in Ballarat - our trainee supports their arts/drama programs and departments and is undertaking ArtsReady’s Certificate III in Business • Marist Brothers College in Burnie, Tasmania – our trainee provides media /sound technical support to the school and is undertaking ArtsReady’s Certificate III in Business • Kyabram P-12 in Kyabram – our trainee supports their arts/drama programs and departments and is undertaking ArtsReady’s Certificate III in Business • * Trainees working in schools accounts for about 30% of our business and gives incumbents a year working in their home municipality – a gap year.

Current examples • We have a number of ArtsReady trainees undertaking creative roles: • Champion Data- our trainee works in their Statistics area and is undertaking doing a Certificate III in IT at Chisholm TAFE (another 2 x p/t trainees are based in Sydney) • Telstra – 8 Indigenous school-based trainees doing SportsReady’s Certificate II in Business –developed specifically for Telstra • Collingwood Football Club – our trainee supports their social media /marketing/events and is doing a Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology at Chisholm TAFE.

  14. Getting a Start in the Arts • ArtsReady is an on-the-job training program for young Australians making a start in the arts and creative industries. It is highly flexible and responsive to an organisation’s needs. • It can be their last years of school or first stop after school.
