  1. 30-Second Employer Training Series Why hire a person with a disability? This training series is a tool kit for employers to understand why it makes good business sense to hire and retain individuals with disabilities. Click here to begin: Training series originally developed by NDI Consulting Inc., national technical assistance provider to the Disability Program Navigator initiative. Customized by the Maryland Department of Disabilities through Medicaid Infrastructure Grant funding from the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare CFDA 93.768.

  2. Why should I hire a person with a disability? The ADA REQUIRES me to hire people with disabilities. Qualified employees with disabilities make great employees and drive success for their employers. Hiring people with disabilities is simply the RIGHT thing to do.

  3. Wrong Choice… The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a civil rights law that guarantees equal access for people with disabilities in all areas of life, including employment. However, the ADA does NOT require employers to hire candidates with disabilities simply because the person has an impairment. Hiring decisions should be based on qualifications for the job! Try Again!

  4. Close, but not quite… While businesses can demonstrate their corporate social responsibility by hiring people with disabilities, there are many BUSINESS reasons for employing qualified applicants with disabilities. Try Again!

  5. CORRECT! “Employers are missing out on a golden opportunity to hire well-trained, qualified people who also bring to the job unsurpassed loyalty, dedication, and commitment. Aside from having equal or higher performance ratings compared to workers without disabilities, workers with disabilities have the lowest attrition rates of any employee group in this country. In other words, they get the job done, and they stay on the job.” - U.S. Department of Labor According to the U.S. Department of Education, workers with disabilities are consistently rated as average or above average in performance, quality and quantity of work, flexibility, and attendance. 97% of workers with disabilities are rated at average or above average. In attendance, 86% of workers with disabilities are rated at average or above average. With respect to performance of job duties, 90% of workers with disabilities are rated at average or above average. Click here for resources and further information:
