Understanding the Purpose of Discussion and Dialogue in Communication

The purpose of discussion is often to persuade or convince others, leading to a tendency to listen only partially and focus on formulating responses. In contrast, dialogue aims to foster understanding and learn about others' thoughts and feelings through active listening and a spirit of inquiry. This approach encourages genuine collaboration. Recognizing your own communication style—whether as a Sensor, Feeler, Thinker, or Intuitor—can enhance your interactions and support more meaningful exchanges.
