  2. GOAL of the CAE Programs Increase cyber human capital capacity by promoting higher education programs that will produce a large number of professionals with expertise in various disciplines related to cybersecurity.

  3. Existing CAE Programs • Centers of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education • CAE IAE (graduate and undergraduate programs, based on curriculum) • CAE IA-Research (PhD programs doing high levels of theoretical research in IA) • CAE IAE 2Y (community college programs) • Centers of Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations

Creating the CAE Cyber Operations Program • Leverage all that was good from the CAE IAE program • Technical content requirements not suitable • Input from practitioners across all types of CO jobs • Input from faculty at ~12 schools • Knowledge Units • Minimum list of topics • Objectives/Outcomes

Updating the CAE IAE Program • Move to the Knowledge Unit Model • Done over a 6 month period via a series of in-person and web based meetings with faculty from over 70 of the existing CAE IAE schools • Introduce the Concept of Focus Areas • Adopt a modified process incorporating the on-site review • Transition to be complete by Jan 2015

Moving Forward • KU and FA model provides flexibility for easy update as necessary • Need to institute a process by which government, academia and industry collaborate on future updates of the KUs and FAs • Allow anyone to suggest modifications to KUs and FAs • Allow anyone to suggest new KUs and FAs • Allow anyone to suggest that a KU or FA should be removed • Establish a panel that will meet at least 2 times per year to resolve any suggested changes/additions/deletions • Updates to KUs and FAs to be published on an annual basis and becoming effective the following year

  7. CyberSTARS • New program focusing on middle and high school students and teachers • Focusing on foundational topics • Cybersecurity awareness • Good programming practices • Sound design/engineering fundamentals • Done via summer camps hosted by CAE schools (2-6 weeks in length)
