HIV/AIDS in Oklahoma • As of December 31, 2010, 8,462 cases had been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in Oklahoma: • 4,908 were living with HIV and/or AIDS • 3,013 were HIV infections and 5,449 were AIDS cases • 85.3% were male, while 14.7% were female. • Since 1982, 3,554 deaths were among people diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, 86 of these deaths occurred in 2010. • In 2010, 208 HIV cases and 92 AIDS cases reported.

HIV/AIDS in Oklahoma • By Age Group (Age at Diagnosis): • 30-39 years (3,213; 38.0%), • 20-29 years (2,652; 31.3%), • 40-49 years (1,582; 18.7%), • 50-59 years (508; 6%), • 13-19 years (224; 2.7%), and • All other ages (less than 3%). • By Race: • Whites (5,441; 64.4%) • Blacks (1,794; 21.2%) • American Indian/Alaska Natives (536; 6.3%) • Hispanics (504; 6.0%) • Asian/Pacific Islander (46; 0.5%) • By Risk: • Approximately 2/3 of all cases were Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM) or MSM and Injection Drug Use (IDU).

New HIV/AIDS Cases in 2010 • 300 cases of HIV/AIDS were diagnosed in 2010: • HIV: 208 • AIDS : 92 • From 2006-2010: • There was a downward trend in AIDS cases (from 188 to 92 cases), and a • Upward trend in newly diagnosed HIV (not AIDS) cases (from 157 to 208 cases). • Of the 86 deaths in 2010, 11 were diagnosed and died in the same year.

  8. New HIV/AIDS by Age • 20-29 years: 35.0% (105 cases) • 30-39 years: 25.7% (77 cases) • 40-49 years: 22.0% (66 cases) • 50-59 years: 10.0% (30 cases) • 60-69 years: 3.3% (10 cases) • Teenagers (13-19 years): 3.0% (9 cases) • Children (12 and younger): 1.0% (3 cases)

New HIV/AIDS Cases in Oklahoma among Heterosexuals • Second largest transmission group (63, 21%). • Age Groups: • 20-29 years (20, 31.7%) • 30-39 years (19, 30.2%) • 40-49 years (13, 20.6%) • 50-59 years (7, 11.1%) • 60 and over (4, 6.3%) • Racial and Ethnic Groups: • Blacks (105 cases, 44%, 10.1 per 100,000) (14 times the rate of Whites) • Whites (18 cases, 28.6%, 0.7 cases per 100,000) • Hispanics (9 cases, 14.3%, 2.7 cases per 100,000) • Asian/Pacific Islanders (3 cases, 4.8%, 4.3 cases per 100,000) • AI/AN and Multiple Race not released due to confidentiality concerns.

Deaths among HIV/AIDS Cases in Oklahoma • There has been a total of 3,554 deaths among persons diagnosed with HIV/AIDS : • HIV: 461 • AIDS: 3,049 • 42% of Oklahomans diagnosed with HIV/AIDS were classified as dead by the end of 2010. • Deaths of persons with a diagnosis of HIV infection may be due to any cause.

  15. Deaths among HIV/AIDS Cases in Oklahoma • In 2010, 86 deaths occurred at a rate of 2.3 deaths per 100,000. • 16 occurred within one year of HIV diagnosis (11 diagnosed in 2010). • Males accounted for 87.2%, while females accounted for 12.8% of deaths.

Oklahoma Gonorrhea Cases • In 2010, a total of 4,369 cases were report • In 1943, the beginning of Gonorrhea Surveillance, there were only 4,715. • Women made up the majority of cases in the United States and Oklahoma since 2002. • In 2010, Blacks in Oklahoma had the highest rate of gonorrhea (882 per 100,000).

Early Syphilis in Oklahoma • Early Syphilis includes primary, secondary, and early latent syphilis • In 2012, 232 cases of early Syphilis in Oklahoma • Incidence rate of 6.2 per 100,000 • State rate decreased from 2009 (from 7.0 to 6.2 per 100,000) • Nationally the rate has increased annually over the past ten years. • Primarily among men (from 3.0 cases in 2001 to 7.8 cases in 2009).
