8. ANIMAL HEALTH CONTROL LAW NO: 3285 • The Ministry of Agriculture charged several Border Customs to perform the importation of live animals and products of animal origin. • Import is allowed only through customs gates that are designated jointly by MARA and Undersecretariat of Customs. • There are 29 custom gates authorized for importing live animals and 58 custom gates for animal products. Article 237 of Implementing Provisions of Turkish Customs Code • Health inspections of animals, animal products, plantation and parts at the authorizedborder customs offices are carried out by the authorized veterinary and inspectors. Customs offices do not allow to the transit of such goods unless this inspection process is completed. • While determining the entry/exit border points and the transit routes within Turkey which the animals, animal products, plantation and parts will follow, the provisions of law, regulation and international agreement shall be considered. • If there is no local office or personnel of Ministry of Agriculture at the border customs offices, these inspections are carried out by the inspectors/vets coming from the nearest local office of Ministry of Agriculture. CURRENT STATUS OF BORDER INSPECTION POST COMPLIED WITH EU Under Project Number -TR 0203.05 -“Support to the Alignment of Turkey to the EU Veterinary Acquis”, Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport Veterinary Border Inspection Post was constructed.
