  1. Passover History By Eldon Lingg

  2. Luke 2:41-50 • The Boy Jesus in the Temple • Luk 2:41  “Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover.  • Luk 2:42  And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.  • Luk 2:43  And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.  • Luk 2:44  But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.  • Luk 2:45  And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.  • Luk 2:46  And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.  • Luk 2:47  And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.  • Luk 2:48  And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.  • Luk 2:49  And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?  • Luk 2:50  And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.  • Luk 2:51  And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.  • Luk 2:52  And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.”

  3. Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” • Virgin Mary remembered Angel Gabriel’s words: Luke 1:31  “And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.  • Luke 1:32  He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: • Luke 1:33  And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.”

  4. Hebrews 1:2“Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;” • “He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.” (John 1:10) • Unknown to the religious leaders, that 12 years old standing before them was God in the flesh --- the very One who gave the law to Moses!

  5. Behold, the Lamb of GodJoh 1:29“The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. Joh 1:30  This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. Joh 1:31  And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. Joh 1:32  And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. Joh 1:33  And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. Joh 1:34  And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.”

  6. Jesus’ ministry began at age 30 (in around AD 24) John the Baptist introduced Him… Behold, the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. • John meant that on a future Passover the Lord Jesus would be sacrificed to pay the terrible price for the sins of all men. • This was his purpose in coming from Heaven to destroy Satan and his followers. • “Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery; But I say unto you, That whosoever LOOKETH on a woman to lust after her… hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” (Matthew 5:27-28)

  7. Shocking Stories • Opening blind eyes • Opening Deaf ears • Healing lepers • Healing disabled people • Raised the DEAD! (Lazarus) • Taught that He was the ONLY way to Heaven • John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” • John 11:25 “He that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live!”

  8. Trouble Brews… Mat 23:13-33 • Mat 23:27  “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.  • Mat 23:28  Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.  • Mat 23:29  Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,  • Mat 23:30  And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.  • Mat 23:31  Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.  • Mat 23:32  Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.  • Mat 23:33  Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?”

  9. Last Supper: Luke 22:14 – 23 & 1Cor11:17 – 34 • 1Co 11:23“For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:  • 1Co 11:24  And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.  • 1Co 11:25  After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.  • 1Co 11:26  For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.” • Jesus explained to everyone how His crucifixion would be the last blood sacrifice for sins, eliminating the priesthood, & Jesus Himself would become God’s permanent High Priest. • Any person could now come straight to Jesus Christ because of His final sacrifice on the cross for our sins. BUT unfortunately his disciples did not understand…

  10. Betrayal Night • In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed in great sorrow. His sweat was like great drops of blood… • II Corinthians 5:21 “He, who knew no sin, dreaded taking upon Himself the sins of the world.” • But if He refused, mankind was doomed! • Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss… Luke 22:48 • Matt 26:15“And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.” Creator, Messiah, & Living Word is invaluable but he betrayed Him for 30 pieces of silver!!!

  11. Matthew 26:64 • “Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of Heaven.” • Jews’ high priests were deeply anger against Jesus… wanting to punish him to Death for Blaspheming… • Angels want to defend Him but they were not permitted because He must complete His mission (Cross).

  12. Judging Time • Facing Roman’s Governor named Pontius Pilate. • He asked Him, “Art THOU the king of the Jews?” • Jesus replied, “Thou sayest it.” (Mark 15:2) • Pilate found Him no fault but he tried to reason with the bloody-thirsty mob! • Mark 15:9 “Will ye that I release unto you the king of the Jews?” • Mark 15:13 Mob was blinded by blood lust “Crucifying Him!” • Mark 15:14 Why? What evil hath he done? Pilate said… Israel rejected their Messiah, and Pilate ordered his death then he said I am innocent of the blood of this just person. (Washing his hands)

  13. Scourged • Whipped with sharp bone and metal in the leather whip… • Stripped away flesh, spurting blood, muscles were sliced wide open. • Most victims died from this beating… • Mocked Him with a purple robe and a crown of thorns. • Carried 100 pound of wooden cross for 650 yards to the place of execution. • Dehydrated his body rather so quick • Isaiah 50:6 “I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair.” • Mar 15:19  “And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.” • Isaiah 52:14 “His visage was so marred more than any man.” • Nailed Him to the cross, and drove rusty spikes into His wrists and feet.

  14. Shed Blood • Jesus shed His blood so every sin ever committed could be forgiven. • Hebrews 9:22 “Without shedding of blood, there is no remission for sins.” • Luke 23:34 - He spoke, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” • Just before He died, He shouted, “It is finished!” • The penalty for the sins of all mankind had been paid in full! • The wages of sin is …. • DEATH!… • Rom_6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. • Now anyone could be saved by putting their faith in Jesus Christ!

  15. After Three Days/Nights • He is risen! • He defeated Satan, and conquered Death and Hell. • Jesus said to His disciplines, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” Matthew 25:18 • Mark 16:15 “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”

  16. Ultimately Judgement • Someday you will stand before God. • Hebrews 9:27 “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement:” • All who accept Christ will live with God forever in heaven. • Any person shall confess to Jesus saying, “I repent of my sins and I accept you as my personal savior.” • Romans 6:23 “ the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” • Acts 16:31 “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” • If you reject Jesus, you will be cast away as mentioned in Rev. 20:15 “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
