  2. WHAT IF????? • As first responders, the likelihood of injury or death is a constant. This is a daily reminder for our family members, which is why it is imperative that we have the support of the Department when tragedies arise. In other words………. “If something happens to me, how can the Department assist my family?”

  3. BENEFITS AND PROTECTION • Will provide assistance to families in contacting the following entities: *Detroit Police Benefit & Protection Association *Employees Benefit Plan / City of Detroit *Met Life / City of Detroit *Detroit Police Death Benefit Plan (DPOA) *Standard Life Insurance *Reliastar Life Insurance (LSA) *Retired Police & Firefighter *Deaths and critical injuries occurring in the line of duty

  4. BENEFITS AND PROTECTION Cont’d: • FEDERAL AND STATE AWARDED BENEFITS • Federal Death Benefit: • State of Michigan in the Line of Duty Death Benefit: Set amount awarded to beneficiaries (law enforcement specific)

POLICE MEDICAL • Notification and Control notifies C.O. who will make scene of injured member *Determine whether compensable • Employee Assistance Program (E.A.P.) *Offers free counseling to Dept. members *Monday thru Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. After hours via Notification and Control at 596-2170

  6. POLICE PERSONNEL Will facilitate payout of outstanding balances (comp, sick time, etc.) by processing receipts for Department equipment obtained by the deceased member's command and getting needed clearances to Payroll.
