Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research What we do: • Lead and coordinate new multi-disciplinary initiatives • Oversee multi-disciplinary research institutes and centers, museums and field stations • Ensure compliance/control risk • Office of Sponsored Projects, tech transfer, animal care, human subjects, lab safety, research misconduct, visas

Research Institutes and Centers Example of CITRIS activities: Bionics Lab research at the intersection of robotics, biological systems, and medicine From astronomy to zoology spanning natural and physical sciences, engineering, social sciences, international & area studies, humanitiesExamples include: • Large multi-campus institutes; such as CITRIS and QB3 • Collaborations with industry, such asEnergy Biosciences Institute (EBI) • Space Sciences Laboratory (SSL) The new EBI building at the corner of Hearst and Oxford Streets

Museums and Field Stations UC Berkeley’s MooreaBiocode Project will create the first comprehensive inventory of all non-microbial life in a complex tropical ecosystem. • Field stations in California and the South Pacific • Campus museums, includingHearst Museum for Anthropology and Museum for Vertebrae Zoology • Botanical Garden Ancient Egyptian crocodile mummy from Hearst Museum of Anthropology undergoing CT scan.
