2015 Goal: HUNGER • 11 African countries met this first Millennium Development Goal* to bring hunger under control 5 years ahead of deadline • Algeria, Algona, Benin, Cameroon, Dijouti, Ghana, Malawi, Niger, Nigeria, Sao Tome and Principe, Togo • Reduced half the proportion of starving people • Between the years 1990 and 2015 • Only country where number has gone up *According to UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO): www.un.org/apps/news
2015 Goal: POVERTY • Initiative to help Africa • Train and deploy a million community health workers by 2015* • Africa’s goods get a fair price on the global market • Global partnerships means prosperity* • 384 million workers lived below $1.25 a day poverty • 294 million before since 2001 *According to Ban Ki-moon: www.un.org/apps/news
2025 Goal • UN Agricultural Agency historic commitment • End hunger in Africa by 2025 • First time strong pledge • Completely eliminate hunger • More than 100 million children under age five are still undernourished and underweight • Worldwide
